St Andrews, Old Course, R & A

St. Andrews is the "home of golf", and also home to the most famous golf course in the world - The Old Course (host to the 2005 Open Championship). There are 5 other courses available in the extensive links area managed by the St. Andrews Links Trust and all just about 20 miles from Newburgh.

Carnoustie is widely acknowledged as one of the sternest tests of links golf around. It hosted the 1999 British Open Championship won by Paul Lawrie. Who will ever forget the dramatic last hole collapse of Jean Van Der Velde as he disastrously found water in the Barry Burn. Host course to the 2007 British Open Golf Championship and only 35 miles away.

Ladybank Golf Club

Ladybank Golf - a quality course in beautiful settings. Regularly used as a qualifying course for the British Open. Ladybank is less than 10 miles from Newburgh.

The beautiful inland courses at Gleneagles are among some of the most exclusive in the world. The Scottish PGA championship has been held here in recent years - and Gleneagles is on the short list to host the Ryder Cup in 2009 and only 27 miles away.

General Information

Not all keen amateurs or recreational players aspire to playing such prestigious courses as those featured above, and for those of us in that category, unable to match the playing skills of Tiger Woods, a less challenging 18 holes, or a shorter 9 holes, might all prove less intimidating, and much more relaxing and rewarding. On that score, we are truly spoiled for choice in this area for, within a 25 mile radius of Newburgh, there is an abundance of courses which admit non-members for daily or weekly play. Advance booking is recommended, especially during the summer months, but you are unlikely ever to find it impossible to access a course within easy travelling distance.  Nearest courses to 'Abbotshill' are: Cupar/Springfield, Falkland (9 hole), Ladybank, and Perth/Scone (4 courses), and all less than a 20 minute drive away. Also within easy access are St Andrews and many other courses.

In addition, and as part of our on-going committment to guests, 'in-house' club hire is now available on a limited basis at the following rates:

Full sets (ladies and gents) £12.50 per day
Half sets (beginners and juniors) £5.50 per day
(All inclusive of tees and 8 balls per bag, with lost/damaged balls charged at 95p each)
Caddy cars £2.50 per day

Reduced weekday visitor/guest rate green fees for Elmwood Golf Course, Cupar, may also be available from time to time but please check with us on arrival.
